Atlantic Sonar Response

Atlantic Sonar Response

The Atlantic BRS is a large team effort including the Read and Nowacek groups at Duke University Marine Lab, as well as researchers from Southall Environmental Associates and others. We use biologging tags, including both DTAGs and satellite tags that collect geolocation and dive depth data. The goal is to better understand short-finned pilot whale and Cuvier’s beaked whale behavioral responses to Naval Mid-Frequency Active Sonar (MFAS).

This work is funded by funded by Naval Facilities Engineering Command Atlantic.

I teach statistics and use them to understand how animals behave, especially their reactions to sound.
